VILLA MGR GONZI
(27th December 1965)
This is were the Homes began. The building was previously used by British Royal Naval personnel during World War II and was converted into the present Home in 1965.
When Villa Papa Giovanni was built in 1974, Villa Mgr Gonzi was adapted to cater for the needs of children up to the age of 16. It can accommodate up to 40 children who require care and attention 24 hours a day. It is their first point of contact with the carers who will guide them throughout their stay at the Home which, for many, may be the rest of their lives. It is here that they are encouraged to face and counteract the limitations with which they are born.and to experience life in all its aspects..
The adventure playground not only stimulates but gives a sense of danger.
Physiotherapy helps to restore functionability to withered limbs. Occupational Therapy encourages creativity and stirs the thought processes. Music Therapy can reach the innermost depths of the mind that lie beyond the reaches of other therapies.
And all the while they are surrounded by experienced carers who, with love and dedication, teach them to live, to play and to feel that they belong. This is their community. This is their home.
Villa Mgr Gonzi is the original Home founded in 1965 but the building goes back much further.
It was constructed for the use of British Royal Navy personnel during World War II and inevitably the years have taken their toll. Its fabric has deteriorated to such an extent that it needs to be rebuilt.
This development presents an opportunity as well as a challenge since it will be possible to incorporate the most up-to-date facilities in a purpose-built Home thus creating an environment for the residents which an adapted building is unable to provide fully.
Obviously, this rebuilding will require a great deal of financing. If you can help, donations will be gratefully accepted at the following address:
